| Enjoy exclusive holidays: the Seychelles, the Maldives, Mauritius - Wanzl will ensure that you travel in comfort as far as your luggage is concerned [more] |
Precious treasures are mostly well hidden in far-away places. The Seychelles were once so well hidden that they were a preferred location for pirates wishing to bury their booty. Today, the fact that the 115 islands covering an area of only 450 km² are located far from the African mainland in the middle of the Indian Ocean is no longer an obstacle. Perfect flight connections mean that the distance can be covered easily. Mauritius and the Maldives also rank among the most exclusive dream destinations in this area of the world. As soon as they have landed, passengers at all three destinations are met with the comfort of luggage transportation using tried-and-tested Wanzl technology. In June 2011, Wanzl supplied 1,000 "Voyager 3000" luggage trolleys to Malé International Airport in the Maldives in one major order. This model stands out thanks to its elegant looks combined with its ease of use in transporting luggage. The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius has experienced the benefits of Wanzl trolleys for some years now: here, passengers are helped to transport their cases with the "Travel 300" stainless steel luggage trolley. This autumn, Wanzl will be making another delivery to the Indian Ocean - the international airport in the Seychelles has opted to purchase 450 "Travel 300 BL" trolleys. This variant offers well-thought-out detailed solutions, with the innovative braking mechanism being a particular benefit: when the trolleys are pushed into each other to save space the brake is automatically triggered, and all wheels remain in contact with the ground at all times. This unique technology means that it is particularly easy for passengers to remove trolleys from the dispensing area and for service personnel to move and manoeuvre the trolleys safely when they are linked together. The three airports opted to use Wanzl as a supplier on account of the company’s positive reputation when it comes to material and processing quality. All trolleys are produced from aluminium or stainless steel, which helps to increase their service lives and maintain a perfect outer surface in spite of the high salt content of the air due to the close proximity to the sea. The trolleys, numbering just under 1,800, are also equipped with an ergonomically designed oval handle and the durable original Wanzl wheels and offer a separate space for hand luggage. Wanzl trolleys are easy to manoeuvre and steer even when fully laden and thus guarantee convenience and first-class comfort when transporting luggage. For Wanzl, the global market leader in luggage trolleys, these orders for three of the world's most exclusive holiday destinations mean that the company's quality has once again held its own in international competition.

| Automated boarding pass control [more] |
Airports within the European Union are obligated under Regulation (EC) no.300/2008, which is rooted in the German Air Traffic Law, to carry out boarding pass controls on transitions from landside to airside, spatially upstream of security and passport control points. These regulations are currently observed by almost all airports with manned boarding pass control desks. To sustainably reduce the resulting operating and labour costs, Wanzl developed eGate, an automated boarding pass control system to replace the control points currently manned by personnel: besides the legal and economical aspects, the priority is to achieve a smooth and fast, but also precise and tamper-proof passenger handling system. At the next stage, a recognition sensor system ensures that passengers are separated. Those passengers that will be seated next to one another or directly behind one another, passengers with children, and passengers with luggage are detected, and the corresponding results are filtered. As soon as these checks have been performed, access is granted and passengers then proceed to passport and security control points. If inconsistencies arise during inspection of the boarding passes or if more than one passenger is detected in the defined access area, visual and auditory signals are activated: the passenger is now asked to leave the access area and at the same time, security officials are alerted. The eGate system, which is visually attractive and blends in with modern airport architecture, naturally also protects against misuse such as individuals climbing over or crawling under. Connecting the eGate to the airport's building management system monitors and guarantees seamless security and the perfect functioning of all systems. The introduction of the automated boarding pass control system eGate sees Wanzl make yet another addition to its range of entrance systems, which has already been deployed successfully in many national and international airports for years.

Wanzl is already developing the future of international trolley management: the new generation of vending units for supplying luggage trolleys in return for a fee or deposit features an integrated PIN pad for requesting PIN numbers during credit card transactions. The Wanzl vending units therefore already comply with tomorrow's standards, which will apply in many countries in future: business customers and private travellers will be able to collect and use luggage trolleys all over the world without the need for cash by using a credit card and entering a PIN. The verification via the PIN pad means users benefit from secure, encrypted data transfer for international money transfers. Alongside credit cards, payment with notes and coins will still be accepted by the Wanzl vending units. Transition from a deposit to a fee-based system is also possible at any time. Wanzl is equipping all vending units with the new DIMOS software. Therefore, supported by LAN, trolley stocks and trolley movements can be recorded around the clock for optimised trolley provision and financial transactions – and this can be tailored to the individual requirements of the customer.
Another exclusive advantage of Wanzl vending units is the unique spatial flexibility. A single vending unit can simultaneously operate up to four luggage trolley supply rails. The current market standard is activating a single rail per vending unit. Wanzl offers its customers utmost efficiency by enabling the spatial, variable and needs-based provision of luggage trolleys to suit the amount of space available. The result is massively reduced investment costs and, at the same time, a high amortisation rate.

The Wanzl vending unit for supplying luggage trolleys now also offers data-encrypted and therefore secure credit card payment via a PIN pad.
As a system partner for international airports, Wanzl offers a first-class service: the company is a premium supplier to more than 200 airports throughout the world and now holds a significant market share in the international airport sector. From the first planning phase to the handover of a turnkey solution, Wanzl offers its partners complete service for landside and airside luggage trolleys, trolley management, trolley circulation, trolley tracking, trolley protection and passenger guidance systems. Wanzl recently acquired three new customers in the form of the airports in Bangkok (Thailand), Chitose (Japan) and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). Wanzl supplied Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok with 7,000 Voyager 3000 luggage trolleys for the public area and 2,000 Easy 88 luggage trolleys for the security-controlled airside area. All luggage trolleys are fitted with RFID transponders, which enable trolley tracking, monitoring of luggage trolley movements in the passenger terminal, as well as maintenance and inventory cycles of the equipment used.
New Chitose Airport in Japan is also introducing Voyager 3000 luggage trolleys. Wanzl is supplying the the model for Chitose with numerous customer-specific features. For instance, due to the proximity to Sapporo with its ski resorts, a ski holder has been integrated. Additional advertising space on the sides of the trolley ensure the greatest possible potential for advertising revenue from the 1,300 luggage trolleys in operation.
King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah opted for the Wanzl Travel 300 BL model: 3,500 luggage trolleys guarantee convenient luggage transport in the various terminals. Due to the many different requirements of the terminals, some of the trolleys have been fitted with a Wanzl travelator castor at the front. For the purpose of continuous maintenance and inventory monitoring, RFID has been incorporated into these luggage trolleys as well. Airport Scooter collection devices support the service with regard to clearance, transport and provision of the luggage trolleys.

Comfort at and on the way to the airport, the best possible service and a comprehensive range of business and leisure facilities ensure an airport is a hit with passengers. This conclusion is drawn by the Skytrax audit, one of the largest and most important airport and airline rankings in the world. For ten years, more than eight million passengers have been surveyed and asked to name the best airport in the world offering the most extensive range of services. In the current 2009 audit, Dubai International Airport scored highly when it came to passenger satisfaction – the availability of luggage trolleys, both landside and airside, also played a part in this success. The Dubai Civil Aviation commissioned Wanzl to install a new and hitherto unique trolley tracking system in the new Terminal 3. Additionally, 4,800 "Voyager 3000" luggage trolleys were delivered to the new terminal, which is used primarily by Emirates. Wanzl fitted each luggage trolley with a transponder. Antennae embedded in the floors, walls and ceilings in the terminal, the terminal entrance area, as well as the multi-storey car parks and parking zones, detect the RFID chips in the trolley transponders in a matter of seconds. This new trolley tracking system enables the exact location of each trolley to be determined at any time. Data on the location of the trolley as well as the exact number of trolleys is then transmitted in real-time to the station manager, so that the trolleys can be efficiently brought back to where they will next be used. The system also serves as a planning tool by offering online alignment with the current flight schedule, enabling the correct number of luggage trolleys to be provided for arriving and departing passengers. As part of this approach, ten electric Wanzl "Airport Scooters" facilitate efficient trolley transportation by pushing or pulling up to 30 linked trolleys.
At the same time, the trolley tracking system allows weaknesses to be identified in the infrastructure that could lead to a possible loss of trolleys. The new Wanzl trolley tracking system facilitates daily airport operations and the comfort of the passengers, in particular in large terminals with high passenger volumes and a high degree of trolley movement. It is also feasible that the innovative system be used to determine the most popular passenger routes, for example to ensure the 1,700 versatile Wanzl "Airport Shopper" trolleys are provided in sufficient numbers in the duty free zones. Whether landside or airside – the globally new and hitherto one-of-a-kind Wanzl trolley tracking system improves service quality and thereby also passenger satisfaction coupled with the simultaneous and optimal use of staff resources.

| Efficient trolley management [more] |
Over four billion passengers travel by air for business or personal reasons each year. Nevertheless, the aerospace industry is also feeling the current economic pinch: passenger numbers have dropped during the current year. However, the industry association ACI Airports Council International has reported the first signs of stabilisation since the middle of the year. Even so, airports throughout the world are under intense cost pressure when it comes to their daily operations – now more than ever before. In view of this situation, cost cuts are unavoidable – and this includes trolley management. Wanzl and ACS demonstrate how to combine necessary savings with improved service. ACS, Airport Cart Service GmbH, has been successfully offering its full range of services for five years. The joint venture between Wanzl and the Swiss company CGS Consulting Ground Service Ltd., ACS, has become one of the first European companies to gain an excellent reputation in the trolley management sector.
Birmingham International Airport is a current example with almost ten million passengers a year. Each day over forty airlines take off and land at the airport of Britain's second-largest city after London. This spring, BHX airport introduced a new trolley management system that is subject to charges. Since the end of April, over 600 Wanzl "Travel 300" luggage trolleys and 14 vending units to supply trolleys are in use in both terminals. Customers collect the trolleys for a charge of one pound to conveniently transport their luggage in the terminals. All vending units are connected to a central processing unit. This enables monitoring of current trolley stocks in individual stations and constant tracing of trolley movement in real-time. This feature provides users with a sufficient number of trolleys at the respective vending units by coordinating figures with the current flight schedule and corresponding number of passengers. The vending units' cash management is also permanently monitored. The installed intelligent software transmits all cash transactions to the central processing unit – also in real-time.
This trolley management system enables the airport to benefit from the optimum service of complete luggage trolley handling, ranging from trolley provision to cash transactions and maintenance. The trolley management system is entirely self-financing due to the income generated by trolley use, leaving the airport without any costs whatsoever. This service-oriented and simultaneously economical trolley management system is managed by ACS as an external service provider, offering services ranging from project planning, procurement and financing to system implementation, start-up, day-to-day operation and maintenance. ACS core competence areas include:
• Project management to define a logistical overall concept for professional trolley management on the airport premises • Procurement and provision of luggage trolleys and vending units from Wanzl, the internationally acclaimed premium airport supplier of now more than 150 airports • System implementation and handover • Deployment of management staff and specialists for analysis, management, service and maintenance of the trolley management system in daily operation.
This type of service made it possible for the English ACS subsidiary ACS Airport Cart Service Ltd. to sign a five-year contract with Birmingham International Airport. Passengers with restricted mobility benefit from the PRM service, accompanying them from check-in to the aircraft cabin. Passengers in the vehicle zone of the terminal are also encouraged to take advantage of the ACS valet service: your vehicle is safely parked while you are away and it is ready for you in the terminal zone as soon as you arrive. There is even the possibility of having your vehicle cleaned and valeted in your absence. The ACS service module newspaper logistics also promises passengers additional comfort. Here, ACS takes care of selecting and procuring newspapers and magazines that are made available to passengers free of charge at the departure gates.

As a system partner for international airports, Wanzl offers a first-class service – the company is a premium supplier to more than 150 airports throughout the world and is not only retaining a significant market share in the international airport sector, but is also increasing this share. From the first planning phase to the handover of a turnkey solution, Wanzl offers its partners complete service for luggage trolleys and duty free trolleys, trolley circulation, trolley protection, trolley management, trolley tracking and passenger guidance systems. Thanks to these service advantages, Nice Côte d'Azur Airport has also selected Wanzl as a supplier for the first time, following the airports in Paris and Bordeaux. Since June, 2,900 "Travel 300" luggage trolleys have been facilitating smooth luggage transportation in France's third-largest airport, through which more than 10 million passengers pass annually. The convenient Wanzl trolleys are available at 13 locations in both terminals as well as the airport car parks. In particular the modern design of the "Travel 300", as well as its comfortable handling, even with heavy loads, impressed Nice Côte d’Azur Airport. Wanzl has also fitted the ''Travel 300'' for Nice with special castors for secure positioning when using the travelators. Other European airports also value Wanzl as an airport partner: Vienna International Airport also selected Wanzl trolleys again – 2,000 "Travel 400" trolleys will provide additional service for luggage transportation from the end of the year.
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) is one of Wanzl's long-standing customers. In anticipation of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, ACSA has invested heavily in the expansion and renovation of South African airports over the past few years. ACSA ordered luggage trolleys as early as 2005; now, in view of the imminent World Cup, Wanzl has delivered additional "Eurosprinter" trolleys, suitable for use with escalators, as part of a follow-up order for Durban and Johannesburg Airports. South Africa is very much on schedule with its preparations for the World Cup in June 2010. The world Cup's effects on sustainable development of the country and the African continent is expected to go far beyond the 30-day competition. Airport operators in North Africa are also opting for the quality, top-class processing and durability of Wanzl products – Wanzl delivered 3,000 "Travel 300" luggage trolleys to Casablanca Airport.

New system Railix
According to the latest survey by the British Centre of Retail Research (CCR)
German stores are losing out to the tune of 5.65 billion euros per year through
shoplifting. Across Europe the loss amounts to a huge 29 billion euros. The only
way stores can combat this problem is to have an effective system of
theft-prevention in place. Wanzl has now come up with a new-style solution for
the retail trade – a space-divider system called Railix. This ingenious new
system combines effective theft-prevention with good looks and easy assembly.
Effective
against shoplifting
The individual elements in the Railix system
are slotted together via plastic profiles to create a gap-free closure. No goods
can be passed through these gaps, which makes Railix an effective tool in
reducing shoplifting. At the same time the windproof panels protect the
employees from draughts and thereby help reduce loss of working time through
illness.
Protecting
value
An important component in the Railix system are the base
units which finish level with the floor. This protects the space-dividers
against damage occurring from trolleys being pushed against them, for example.
Also this feature means they are easy to clean, by hand or by machine.
Ultimate
flexibility
The Railix space-divider panels offer tremendous
scope for free combination, to suit a wide range of applications. Thanks to the
corner units which can be fitted steplessly at angles between 90 to 270°, it´s
possible to put together all kinds of variations, and to make changes as
required. Railix is available in a wide choice of materials, for example wire
glass, acrylic glass, wood or plastic. A range of surface finishes for the bases
open up even more design scope.

particular in eastern Europe, and in Asia, the main airports are reporting
strong growth figures. A survey published at the end of 2006 by A.T. Kearney, a
leading international management consultancy, highlights the enormous growth
potential in the entire aviation sector, thanks to growing passenger numbers
despite strong price competition. Wanzl is benefiting from this positive trend –
in the first half of 2007 it received several new orders including three large
orders, for Changi Airport in Singapore, the Frédéric Chopin Airport in Warsaw
